World’s Most Influential and Innovative Companies, 2023

Which companies have the strongest reputations within and across industries? That’s the question at the heart of the CEOWORLD 200 Most Influential and Innovative Companies, an annual ranking of corporate reputation based on a poll of some 125,000 global corporate executives, company directors (or equivalent), business leaders, private equity investors, investment bankers, and financial analysts around the globe. The CEOWORLD magazine’s 200, or simply the CEOWORLD 200, is an index tracking the world’s most influential and innovative Companies. It is one of the most commonly followed global rankings.

When considering the eligibility of a new addition, the CEOWORLD magazine Executive Council assesses the company’s merit using eight primary criteria: market capitalization, liquidity, domicile, public float, Global Industry Classification Standard & representation of the industries in the economy of the world, financial viability, length of time publicly traded, and stock exchange. Only companies with a market capitalization of at least $1 billion were considered.

Walmart Inc was ranked No. 1 globally among the CEOWORLD magazine’s most influential and innovative companies list, while Amazon.com, Inc and Apple Inc. placed second and third, respectively. The 2023 rankings of the world’s most influential and innovative companies placed CVS Health in fourth ahead of Aramco in fifth, Morgan Stanley ranked sixth, and Alphabet Inc seventh.

The CEOWORLD 200 Most Influential and Innovative Companies are each nominated from a range of sectors, then judged individually by the CEOWORLD magazine’s global network of editors and correspondents, as well as from industry experts. The study is based on a list of the top companies in each of the 20 sectors based on several factors, including market capitalization and the number of employees.

Overall, among the top 10 most influential and innovative companies, the eighth, ninth, and tenth positions are held by Shell plc, UnitedHealth Group, and Exxon Mobil Corporation. Berkshire Hathaway Inc took the No. 11 spot, followed by Costco Wholesale Corporation (No.12) and Cigna Group (No.13).

The survey participants were asked to rate organizations within an industry based on specific criteria requirements, choosing the top ten companies they admired most. THE CRITERIA: Ability to attract, develop and retain top talent; innovation capacity; commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace; market competitiveness; corporate governance practices; environmental policies; social and corporate governance; obligation to protect the assets of the Company and ensure their efficient use; the number of employees; decisions and investments with long-term objectives; quality of senior management, providing high-quality products and services, inspiring business leaders; market capitalization; and company’s overall standing in categories such as assets, liabilities, equity, expenses, revenue, and overall profitability. Anyone could vote for any company in any industry.

The ranking doesn’t insinuate that these are the most ethical companies but are simply an indication of the reputation and standing of the company. The list comprises companies across various sectors, including finance, banking, health care, entertainment, technology, etc.

Meanwhile, Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn) ranked No. 14 in the CEOWORLD magazine’s ranking of the most influential and innovative companies in the world for 2023. AT&T Inc. came in fifteenth place, followed by McKesson Corporation (sixteenth), Volkswagen Group (seventeenth), AmerisourceBergen Corporation (eighteenth), and Trafigura Group, ranked nineteenth. Out of 200 most influential and innovative companies in the world, Chevron Corporation ranked No. 20th.
